What a beautiful week it has been. Very memorable for one of my family members. My younger cousin Carrie, is an enlisted member of our U.S. Navy. This week was a monumental week for her ship. I spoke to her this morning, and she was beaming about the Commissioning today of her ship. She is extra proud of her Naval career, since that was a big point of conversation between her, and our Grand-dad. The George H. W. Bush (CVN 77) is the 10th and final Nimitz-class aircraft carrier. This evolutionary ship will pave the way to a new class of carriers. Named after the nation’s 41st president, this powerful warship of the 21st century will feature numerous improvements and modernizations.
Northrop Grumman christened the nation’s 10th and final Nimitz-class aircraft carrier, George H. W. Bush (CVN 77), on October 7, 2006. The ship’s namesake and 41st President of the United States, George H. W. Bush, attended the ceremony and became the first president in the shipyard’s 120-year history to participate in the christening of his namesake ship.
Several members of the Bush family were on hand for the special occasion, including the former president’s wife Barbara and their daughter, Doro Bush Koch. Mrs. Koch serves as the ship’s sponsor and performed the traditional honor of breaking a bottle of American sparkling wine across the ship’s bow during the ceremony.
President George W. Bush also attended and honored his father during the ceremony as a special guest speaker.

Carrie, we are so proud of you, and the rest of your shipmates. You have really made great strides to be where you are today. Keep it up!

Nice post, Katy. I watched the commissioning ceremony on TV last Saturday morning and it was really impressive. When the sailors all ran up on the ship to bring it to life, I had tears in my eyes! Best wishes to Carrie; she'll be in my prayers.
